Official says 13 killed, at least 50 injured in Barcelona van attack

A van has crashed into pedestrians in Barcelona's city centre, injuring several people, local police said on Thursday.

Police said a white van mounted a sidewalk before ploughing into the crowd in the city's busy Las Ramblas district, which is popular with locals and tourists.

Several people were injured, police said, describing the incident as a "massive crash".

Catalan emergency services said people should not go to the area around Placa Catalunya, the city's main square

Police have classified the van incident as a 'terrorist attack'.
